Cannes Critics Week has released its 64th edition lineup, which can be dominated by French and Belgian films and begins with the curiosity of Laura Wandel's nervous social drama Adam's.
“Adam's Curiosity” marks Wander's “playground”, a no doubt Cannes won the 2021 award. The film takes place in the hospital's pediatric unit and follows an upset mom, her son, son and nurse to take care of them. “Adam's Curiosity” plays two of France's greatest stars, Léa Drucker (“hosted”) and Anamaria Vartolomei (“occurred”).
Curated by creative director Ava Cahen and her Choice Committee, the lineup covers 11 featured films, six of which are directed by girls. Up to 1,000 films from 102 international locations have been submitted to the critics week for this year. Select to run with the Cannes Film Competition, dedicated to the first and second choices.
Some of the most anticipated films in the lineup embody “The Lady of Left”, a solo film for Taiwanese director Shih-Ching Tsou who works with Sean Baker (can be produced).
Cahen said the film is a “fast-paced urban melodrama” a journey between a single mom and her two daughters who arrived in Taipei not long ago and are working hard to make ends meet. Kahn continued: “Tracially transformed into a rare Odyssey, full of twists and turns and feelings that put the asphalt in trouble.”
Another bold Asian film is planned to attend Critics Week, “A Good Ghost” marks the feature of Thai director Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke. Cahen said the film is “a luxury novel where ghosts protest by reincarnating it as a forgotten ghost, attracting inhabited eyes and inciting all particles.” Kahen said the rising star of Thai film Mai Davika Hoorne, who is titled “a useful ghost” and everyone is a “social satire and romantic comedy.”
Furthermore, the competition is the “Sleepless Metropolis Metropolis”, a feature of Spanish director Guillermo Galoe, whose 2023 rapid “Aunque Es de Noche” participated in the Cannes Film Festival and won the Goya Award. This friend film shot in Canada is practical and spins two inseparable companions who have to say goodbye because one of them is considered to be transferred.
The critics’ week will introduce highlights of French filmmakers, especially Alice Douard, Love Letters, a dramatic comedy about mothers, starring Ella Rumpf and Monia Chokri, a married lesbian couple looking forward to their first little kid. “A person is pregnant, the opposite situation should be taken to take on the child that may be born. All types of adventures followed, resulting in pleasant roles,” Kahn said.
Cahen and her committee also chose “baise en ville” for specific screenings. The film is an alternative working-class comedy directed by Martin Jauvat, a young unemployed stroller who decides to get a driver's license. Since he seems to be paying for his driving lessons, his redemption comes from an unconventional temporary company
It's no different like that. Solids are done by two popular actors William Lebghil and Emmanuelle Bercot.
After premiering the golden documentary “The Nile Women” in 2024, critic Zhou will direct “Imago” among competitors this year “Imago” will direct Chechen director Déni Oumar Pitsaev. Kahn describes it as an “autobiographical documentary taken with a handheld digital camera and direct contact with reality.”
“Imago” followed the director when he left the convoy to build a futuristic house near the Chechnya border, thus breaking away from tradition. His efforts sparked debates within the family and rekindled the former trauma near him.
The sidebar will be closed with “The Odyssey of Dandelions” directed by Japanese film producer Momoko Seto. Critics screened Jeremy Clapin’s Oscar nomination in 2019 “I misplaced my physique.”
As mentioned, the jury can be hosted by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, who can form Oscar-winning British actor Daniel Kaluuya, Moroccan journalist and songwriter Jihane Bougrine, French Canadian photographer Josée Dhane, and Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara.
