Gayle King responded to opposition to her Blue Origin flight on Monday, which noticed an all-female crew member along with “CBS Morning” anchor, pop star Katy Perry and journalist and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez on the eight-minute journey.
Although its goal is to consider the girls of aviation, the flight of the house tech company created by Jeff Bezos has also attracted a lot of criticism, even from different celebrities. The information host acknowledged that flying with Blue Origin was “expensive” – although the exact value of the visit is unknown – but mentioned “if you happen to get enough people to find yourself, it shouldn’t be that expensive.”
She also spent a second to name the people who called the flight “travel” and said, “You would never meet a person, a male astronaut, who was going to be at home, so they said, ‘Oh, he went on a trip.’ … It has always been called a flight or a journey, so I really felt that it was a little disrespectful to the tasks and work that Blue Origin did.”
Regardless of the criticism, King mentions that she hasn't let the haters put her down—even if some of them are her friends in the leisure trade. “I do know that there are Yankees, I do know that there are some haters, but I won't let individuals steal my fun and steal what we did that day or everything we did.” “I won't let it in at all. I'm not. These are some of my friends who might throw shadows!”
